The two things that keep a sweatshirt looking like clothing are the weight of the loopback and the ribbing at the edges. Thin cloth and slack ribbing is exactly how a cheap one gets cheap.

How does it fit?
Room through the body, close at the cuff and hem. If you want it oversized take one size up — the ribbing keeps the shape either way.
Will it go shapeless?
The ribbing at the cuffs and hem is what prevents that, and it is knitted rather than cut, so it comes back to shape after every wash.
How do I wash it?
Machine washable. Cool, inside out, and let it dry naturally — that is the whole routine.
Is it a good gift?
One of the easier things to give: the sizing is forgiving and there is a colour here for most people.
